Spread the Word! 911 Cell Phone Bank
As a recent vendor at the Property and Evidence Conference in Orlando, I had the pleasure to meet the great people from 911 Cell Phone Bank.
911 Cell Phone Bank is a 501c3 non-profit agency formed for the purpose of providing no cost emergency communications to citizens in need, but who are unable to provide for themselves. The agency operates primarily through the law enforcement community, and also through corporate and private contributions.
The 911 Cell Phone Bank collects old, unused cell phones and subsequently clears them of all information. Next, they restore all original factory settings and packages the devices with an AC charger. Once the phones have been restored and packaged, they are then distributed to participating agencies (including police and sheriff’s offices, shelters for abused victims, and organizations for seniors).
There are no costs associated with the program. In fact, the organization provides packaging and postage labels for incoming and outbound cell phones.
I love how this organization is selflessly helping people who may need to reach out to law enforcement but do not necessarily have the means to afford a cell phone. Check out their website for more information to inquire about how your department can get more involved in this wonderful cause.
